We know that heroes come in all forms. The Annual Superhero Event is more than just a celebration—it’s a powerful opportunity to bring awareness to the realities of child abuse and sexual assault in our communities while honoring the strength of those who have endured and overcome such challenges.
A Display of Courage and Awareness
Thanks to the hard work of the Ford Leadership Scholars, along with local groups and individuals, the Annual Superhero Event brings an impactful message to the heart of our community. Each year, a special display is placed on the Lawn of Katy City Hall, creating a visual reminder of the importance of protecting and supporting the most vulnerable among us.
What You’ll See:
🦸 Life-Size Superhero Cutouts: These powerful symbols honor the resilience of survivors and remind us all that heroes come in many forms.
🎗️ Wooden Ribbons: Representing awareness and hope, these ribbons serve as a call to action to prevent abuse and support survivors.
🌟 Pinwheels: A symbol of childhood innocence and joy, the pinwheels represent a commitment to creating safe and nurturing environments for every child.
These visuals not only honor survivors but also encourage our community to take action in the fight against child abuse and sexual assault.
Why It Matters
Child abuse and sexual assault remain silent epidemics that often go unnoticed. Events like the Superhero Display help shine a light on these critical issues and spark important conversations.
By bringing awareness to this topic, we hope to:
- Educate the community about the prevalence of abuse and how to identify warning signs.
- Empower survivors to seek support and know they are not alone.
- Inspire action to prevent abuse and create a safer, healthier future for our children.
