It’s the time of year when we all feel a little more thankful for what we have, and a little more charitable towards those not as fortunate. Below are a few thoughts of how you can make the most of this season of giving.

1. Donate your slightly used treasures at our Donation Center or Mason Rd. Super Store.
2. Donate to our Food Pantry and help feed others.
3. Volunteer your time to help others in our community.
4. Give financially to KCM.

Your organization has made a difference in the lives of children in need and now we invite you to join us again to make this Christmas season a joyous one.

When you are planning your toy drive, keep in mind that the children we serve range in age from birth to 17 years old.

The greatest need for toy drive items is for our teenagers who have the same needs and emotions as younger children.

Here are some age group suggestions:

Teenagers (13-17 years) love gift cards from Target, Best Buy, Academy, Wal-Mart, JC Penney, Kohl’s, etc. They also enjoy CDs, cameras, personal care products for both boys and girls, watches, purses, wallets and all sporting equipment. DVD movies (G, PG or PG13 only).

Pre-Teens (9-12 years) love gift cards also. They enjoy the same items as teens as well as arts and crafts items, board games, handheld electronic games, remote control vehicles and DVDs (G or PG only, please).

Children (4-8 years) love dolls, action figures, age appropriate sporting equipment, learning games, puzzles, picture books, remote controlled vehicles, board games, arts and crafts, Legos, Tinker Toys, Lincoln Logs and DVDs. (Veggie Tales, Disney, etc.)

Babies and Toddlers (Birth to age 3) love soft, cuddly toys, learning toys, brightly colored toys, riding and pull toys, and DVDs such as Veggie Tales, Baby Einstein, etc.

Please limit the cost per gift to a minimum of $10 and a maximum of $50.

Gift Delivery Times:

Gifts should be delivered to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 5373 Franz Rd., Katy, Texas 77493. Delivery times are Friday, December 2^nd between 3:00pm and 8:00pm or Saturday, December 3^rd, between 10:00am and 4:00pm.

Please DO NOT WRAP the gifts. It is critical for us to be able to see the gift quickly and to place it with a particular child. Donating wrapping paper, ribbons, bows, tape, and gift tags is always appreciated. We will distribute it to the families to wrap their gifts. Please deliver bicycles, tricycles and wagons fully assembled.

Should toy donations exceed what is needed for Santa’s Sleigh, those donations will go into direct service for KCM clients and/or will be distributed to other ministries in the surrounding Katy area. Thank you for your continued support of our Annual Katy Christian Ministries Toy Drive.

Last year we were able to make Christmas more joyful for over 1200 children from Katy and surrounding areas. We also assisted 30 senior adults.

When you determine the number of families you would like to assist at Christmas, you have 3 ways of getting your information to KCM:

Please excuse me as this post will be more personal than professional, but being that KCM is a large part of my life it will all be brought together.  This past weekend was a profound one for me. My sister-in-law, Mary, ran the Houston Marathon, and when I say ran I mean like RAN the marathon.  Her goal was to qualify for the Boston Marathon, in order to do so she had to have a time of 3:40:00…yes that is only 3 hours and 40 minutes.  For those of us not in the running world a marathon is 26.2 miles, and to accomplish this HUGE feat she would need to run on average a 8:10 mile.  If you are anything like myself you cannot help but chuckle at the idea, but for Mary it is a very real possiblity.  In the end she ran it in 3:45:16, meaning she missed your dream by a mere 5 minutes and 16 seconds.  When we got her time we were all so sad and disappointed for her.  Disappointed that she did not succeed, sad that she would not get to see her dream fulfilled…but we all had another thing coming.  Mary was not sad or disappointed, she was so excited that she ran her best time by 13 minutes, there was no sense of failure in her.

As we sat at brunch congratulating her on an amazing morning I couldn’t help but sit in awe of how humble and sincere she was.  Please don’t get me wrong, Mary is always very humble and incredibly sincere, but if it were me I would have been prancing around showing off my medal to everyone in the restaurant and expecting praise from them.  Instead she blushed when we clapped for her as she entered and then quietly sat down and began looking at the menu and graciously thanked us for being there.  It was then in that moment that I saw JOY all over her.  Through Mary’s running she has touched so many lives, and has been able to be a wonerful and powerful influence to those she run’s with.  Mary exudes Christ in all that she does, but through her running she has been able to share Him with other’s.  You see running to Mary is all about Jesus, and sharing Him with Others and then she worries about Herself…so running is a JOY filled passion for her.

This all made me start to think about what JOY I have expereinced lately.  Where in my life is Jesus First, Other’s Second and Myself Last?  Where is my JOY?  As I sat and pondered those very questions the answer was right in front of me…my JOY is my work at KCM and serving with and for those around me.  Please don’t get me  wrong, my Family is my greatest JOY and accomplishment, but the work that KCM does in the community and the piece of it I get to experience fills my heart with a JOY I have never expereinced before.
