The 21st annual NALC National Food Drive is Saturday, May 11

On Saturday, May 11, 2013, Campbell Soup Company will team up with Katy, TX area Letter Carriers (NALC) to collect food donations in order to provide assistance to the millions of Americans who are struggling with hunger.

“On any given month the Food Pantry gives out over 35,000 food items to 700 families in the KISD area.  The Letter Carrier Food Drive comes at a critical time of the year by supplying items to help sustain the pantry during the summer months, when donations are at their lowest.  Your support of both food items and personal care items are extremely important and appreciated.”

Bruce Kingwell, Director KCM Food Pantry

February 23rd 9:00 am – 3:00 pm – Youth in Philanthropy

YIP-Logo

Youth in Philanthropy (YIP) is in its 17th year of providing opportunities for high school students to learn the role volunteering and philanthropy play in building a better community for all.  YIP cultivates student leaders, letting students develop and test different skill sets while making a difference in their community by participating a countywide service project and six monthly workdays with area nonprofits.

On February 23rd on the Plaza at Sugar Land Town Square from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., approximately 145 students representing eighteen area high schools from Calvary College Prep, Fort Bend ISD, Lamar CISD, Needville ISD and Stafford MSD will be participating in a Healthy Children’s Countywide Food Drive to raise awareness of the need to replenish the healthy snacks supply of our local food pantries before summer arrives.  The students will encourage their campus peers, friends, neighbors and the community-at-large to join them in collecting non-perishable food to donate to East Fort Bend Human Needs, Rosenberg-Richmond Helping Hands, Katy Christian Ministries, Mamie George Community Center, and Second Mile Mission.

YIP does not happen without the support of many partners, and this year is no different.  Taking the lead with coordinating the logistics of this event is Si Environmental (Si Enviro), and we can also count on our long time partners: Sugar Land Town Square, Planned Community Developers, the Fort Bend Chamber, and the George Foundation.  However, we need your assistance to assure the success of the Healthy Children’s Countywide Food Drive. We invite you to join our efforts by filling at least one backpack with healthy snacks (the list is attached) to donate on Saturday, February 23rd.  We are hoping to fill the beds of two pickups with contributed backpacks filled with healthy snacks.

We encourage you to bring your donations to the event where you will meet the YIP students and they can have the opportunity to thank you.  If it is not possible to drop your backpack(s) off on Saturday, you may drop it off at one of three locations: Fort Bend Chamber (445 Commerce Green, Sugar Land, TX  77478); The George Foundation (215 Morton Street, Richmond, TX 77469); or Si Environmental (6410 Reading Road, Rosenberg, TX  77471).There will be many activities planned for the day, so we hope you will come out to celebrate with the YIP students on the 23rd.

With your help, we know the YIP students will have a successful event that will benefit many children throughout our community.

If you have questions, please feel free to contact Steve Nordlander at 281-391-5261.

We promise you will have fun!
